RECIPES TO SUPPORT LACTATION

RECIPES TO SUPPORT LACTATION

Fenugreek Tea

Fenugreek is an amazing herb that stimulates lactation and the best way to take Fenugreek is tea in the form granules.

The tea should be steeped in boiling water and drunk three times a day more, or more if needed. The granules can also eaten, however I suggest adding honey as they are bitter in taste.

B Complex

B Complex vitamins are crucial for good lactation and pregnancy, as they are depleted during pregnancy. Taking a supplement to support B vitamins will aid milk production, as well as your own energy levels and immune system.

Calcium

Building a baby and breastfeeding place a huge demand on your body. Each month your body also uses calcium to menstruate, meaning women are regularly depleted of this crucial mineral. Calcium depletion can lead to osteoporosis and is a silent condition.

This is one of many reasons adding a calcium and magnesium supplement during pregnancy and postnatally to prevent osteoporosis, as magnesium is required to effectively absorb calcium.

Eggs shells  steeped in Lemon juice

1) Take six eggs squeeze enough lemon juice  to cover the whole eggs.

2) Leave them covered overnight the lemon juice will dissolve the calcium form the eggshells only the membrane will be left.

3) Remove the eggs gently they can be used to make scramble eggs etc.

4) The Lemon juice now infused with Calcium (This has no taste)and can be used in recipes to make dressings etc.

Tahini and Turmeric

Tahini is natures powerhouse of calcium, magnesium, protein and many more nutrients (Crushed Sesame Seeds).

Turmeric an amazing spice that when heated with pepper releases curcumin – the major antioxidant protecting our cells from damage.

Place 3 tablespoons of Turmeric and one teaspoon of Pepper in 400mls of water and bring this gently to the boil. Turn the heat off to cool then use this solution to add cold recipes  dressings etc.

I use Turmeric and pepper when I cook to optimise the antioxidant quality in my body, and beans, lentils, rice, quinoa recipes taste great with this added.

Dressing Ingredients

One bottle of Organic Tahini

150mls lemon Juice

150mls Water

One teaspoon of Pink Himalayan salt

Method

Poor half  the  contents of the tahini bottle out into an easy mix container.

Mix the lemon Juice, water and salt together. Then add the your previously heated solution of Turmeric and black pepper slowly and mix it. It  will gradually thicken up and turn yellow you may need more water if it too thick the lemon and the oil in the emulsify and doubles in quantity.

This delicious mix may be used on sandwiches, salads, and chickpea dishes. It can be used hot or cold, however when heated lemon loses some vitamin C content.
